Immigration

Immigrants are essential to Canada's prosperity, bringing diverse skills, enriching culture, and addressing demographic challenges. Embracing immigration reflects values of inclusion, social justice, and economic growth integral to Canada. If the LPPC is elected, below are the issues that we will tackle.

01

Refugee Protection

The Issue:

Canada's current asylum system does not always provide adequate protection for refugees fleeing persecution and violence.
Solutions we will put in place:

  • Increase resources to speed up refugee claim processing, hiring more staff.

  • Provide more legal aid for refugees to get better legal help during asylum.

  • Give more money to agencies helping refugees resettle, offering housing, healthcare, and job support.

02

Systemic Discrimination

The Issue:

Immigrants who are mostly from marginalized areas face discrimination when it comes to factors such as employment, housing and social services.
Solutions we will put in place:

  • Penalize employers who discriminate in hiring or at work.

  • Use anonymous hiring to reduce bias.

  • Fund organizations helping immigrants facing discrimination.

03

Access To Services

The Issue:

Some immigrants have trouble accessing services such as healthcare, education and social assistance.
Solutions we will put in place:

  • Provide more money for language classes focused on immigrants, especially for jobs.

  • Hire more interpreters and diverse staff in healthcare for better understanding.

  • Create help centers for immigrants in areas that need them most.

  • Make sure immigrants can get online and access government help easily.

04

 Labour Exploitation

The Issue:

Immigration workers or temporary foreign workers face exploitation, low wages, and unsafe working conditions.
Solutions we will put in place:

  • Enforce strict guidelines to stop stealing wages, unsafe work, and unfair treatment.

  • Watch temporary foreign workers more closely to make sure bosses follow the rules and don't mistreat them.

  • Give temporary foreign workers a way to become permanent residents so they have the same rights and protections as everyone else at work.

05

Family Reunification

The Issue:

Lengthy processing times and quite restricting eligibility criteria prevent families from reuniting in Canada.
Solutions we will put in place:

  • Make it easier for families to apply by cutting down on paperwork and waiting times.

  • Allow more family reunification visas each year to shorten the wait for sponsorship.

  • Set up services like language classes, settling help, and mental health support for sponsored families.

  • Be more flexible with who can sponsor family members, taking into account different family situations.

06

Climate Refugees

The Issue:

With the growing impact of climate change, more people are being displaced from their homes due to environmental factors.
Solutions we will put in place:

  • Create a special refugee status for people affected by climate change, ensuring they have legal protection and chances to relocate safely.

  • Give more money to programs that help communities adapt to climate change and become more resilient, so fewer people are forced to leave their homes.
